The Anchor

The Anchor, “Fortis”, the symbol of Fort Greene Sports, recognizes the strength and achievements of our American Naval history in Brooklyn.

From the early heroes of the Revolutionary War and the battles of nearby Wallabout Bay.

Its the Black “privateers” like James Forten, who fought and died on the Wallabout waters.  Some remain interred on the site of the Colored Hospital off Wythe St and Flushing Avenue.

And the service of its citizens who built naval vessels until decommissioned in 1966
