Join the Fort Greene team in a movement that encourages people to support their favorite charities. Tuesday, November 29, 2016 is #GivingTuesday, a global day of online giving, coinciding with the Thanksgiving holiday and the kickoff of the holiday shopping season similar to Black Friday and Cyber Monday. #GivingTuesday is now in its fourth year and has grown into an international movement of generosity.
Using the power of social media to harness the collective power of charities, families, businesses and individuals, more than 15,000 partner organizations are involved. Last year, the event raised an estimated $27 million in 50 states and more than 15 countries. “Everyone can be a philanthropist,” said Beverly Greenfield, director of media relations at 92nd Street Y, which launched Giving Tuesday three years ago in partnership with the United Nations Foundation.
“You don’t have to be giving a million dollars. This tries to get lot of organizations in front of people and encourages them to be involved in their communities.”
Fort Greene Sports Founder, Bob Byer says, “I think it is wonderful to find a national program that will inspire our friends and neighbors to take collaborative action to improve their local communities. The Giving Tuesday ideal is inspiring in how should people think about and participate in the annual holiday “season of giving”.
